Using NicoDerm® CQ®
Use NicoDerm CQ stop smoking patches correctly to beat smoking all day.
You've decided to quit. You've got the strength that's right for you. Now it's time
to start. Here's how.
- Read the NicoDerm CQ box and the User's Guide (booklet) which contain important
safety tips. The User's Guide is full of advice for quitting smoking. The booklet
also contains reminder stickers and the Personal Code you need to enroll in Committed
Quitters®.
- Remember, no cigarettes.
- Set a time. First thing in the morning is best. Putting the patch on at the same
time every day helps you remember.
- Clean a non-hairy area of skin with a non-moisturizing soap and let it dry completely.
The upper arm is a good choice for most people, but the patch can be worn on almost
any non-hairy area. It is important to avoid using lotions, cream and skincare products
on the area you choose.
- Open the sealed foil pouch. Take out the NicoDerm CQ patch. The sticky side is covered
with a plastic liner.
- Pull the liner off, one side at a time. Try not to touch the sticky part.
- Press the NicoDerm CQ patch firmly on your skin with the heel of your palm for at
least 10 seconds.
- Wash your hands after applying or removing NicoDerm CQ.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets. Used patches have enough nicotine to poison
children and pets. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center
right away. Dispose of used patches by folding sticky ends together. Replace in
its pouch and discard.
- Wear your NicoDerm CQ patch for either 16 or 24 hours. If you crave cigarettes when
you wake up, or feel like you want extra protection, wear the patch for 24 hours.
Otherwise, take it off at bedtime and apply a fresh patch first thing in the morning.
